We've referenced field improvements often on CodBall, and this week the Cape Cod Baseball League announced that both Lowell Field (Cotuit) and Spillane Field (Wareham) will receive $150,000 each from the Yawkey Foundation to make improvements. This will come as welcome news for players, who consistently complain about the poor conditions in Wareham (see CodBall Conversations).
The before and after photos of the field improvements in Wareham are stunning.
Wareham, where the lights literally went out in the midst of an '06 playoff game, is hosting the '07 season's All-Star game.
Brewster, Bourne, Hyannis and Falmouth are prior benefeciaries of Yawkey grants. CCBL President Judy Scarafile is a trustee of Yawkey Foundation II.
The CCBL also announced back in January that the Fuller Family Foundation had donated to the league $45,000 per year for the next 5 years. A wonderful gift, but the details are vague. I plan to post on this separately.
