With almost a month left before opening day, the league announced May 9th that Hyannis will not have its lighting system ready for the 2007 season. This moves all start times in Hyannis from 7pm to 5pm, and the two August games (and any playoff games) to 4:30pm. This is the second year in a row that the Mets have promised lights. Last year, rain was cited as the reason for delaying the installation and all 2006 schedules were misprinted with 7pm start times in Hyannis. This year, "continuing environmental concerns and rising installation costs" have delayed the installation.
The Mets organization is disappointed but assures us that the project will be completed. "We feel a great deal of disappointment, but maintain the collective positive energy to complete the project," said Mets President Tino DiGiovanni.
