Mike Rocha from New Bedford's South Coast Today is reporting that the Cape Cod Baseball League recently warned players and coaches to stop using chewing tobacco, which is banned by the league. Punishment of offenses escalates from $500 to banishment for the remainder of the season.
Commissioner Paul Galop tells the newspaper that the league has an arrangement with David's Sunflower Seeds which donates seeds as a "safe" alternative. The league provides the sunflowers free to players. If you've ever visited a Cape dugout after a game you can be assured that the donation is going to good use.
