From Baseball AmericaWith the Cape Cod Baseball League's All-Star Game fast-approaching, the commissioner's mid-season report estimates that more than 100 professional scouts are expected this week. This season, players drafted in June need to sign by an Aug. 15 deadline. Scouts, players and parents will be busy this week.

The Internet this week heats up with several interesting stories about scouts, agents and prospects.

The Boston Globe this morning reports on special assignment scouts. "Once I pinpoint players, I stay with them to see whether there's a realistic chance a team will move them," says a scout for Seattle Mariner's GM Bill Bavasi.

And several blogs are picking up on apparent criticism ESPN's Peter Gammons has for super-agent Scott Boras and his private training institute. According to reports, Gammons believes Boras has ruined several top prospects. The "reporting" is based on some second-hand reports from an on-air radio interview.
