Day 53: Falmouth Commodores @ Bourne Braves & The Miracle Mets of Hyannis

by Andrew Wirtanen in

The Hyannis Mets are still in the playoff race! Falmouth lost tonight 1-4 at Doran Park in Bourne. The game lasted 8 innings and was cut short due to darkness after a game ending Bourne 6-3 double-play assisted by Addison Maruszak (South Florida). The Braves scored 4 runs on 10 hits with 1 error. The Commodores scored 1 run on 6 hits with 3 errors. Steven Hensley (Elon) got the win and his record goes up to 4-2 with a 3.70 ERA and 35 strikeouts on the season. Kyle Thebeau (Texas A&M) got the loss and moves to 1-1 after his first start of the year. The Braves are now 21-0 when leading after 7 innings. Ben Guez (William & Mary) went 4-4 and was the "Subway of Buzzards Bay" player of the day. Guez started the year as a temporary player and was a member of the Western Division All-Stars. Guez commented in a postgame interview, "it's day like this that show you that we have what it takes to make it to the playoffs and to make a run and hopefully win a championship." Thanks to Andrew Grover ("Voice of the Braves", Head Intern) for the post-game interview with Guez and the run-down. mets-logo.jpgAll eyes are now upon Hyannis. The Mets need to pull out a win at home on Tuesday night vs. the Wareham Gatemen. If they lose, it's all over. If they win, it all comes down to the Hyannis @ Falmouth 7:00pm matchup at Arnie Allen Diamond (Guv Fuller Field on Wednesday). Winner takes all. Rain is currently threatening play on Wednesday night and could force a delay or postpone the game till Thursday night. If Hyannis ties Wareham on Tuesday night and beats Falmouth on Wednesday night, then the teams will re-match on Thursday night to determine who gets the playoff spot. Very exciting.
