Puddles in Yarmouth (and across the Cape)

Rain Out in Yarmouth"Goliath was struck out by David, A base hit was made on Abel by Cain, and the Prodigal Son made a great home-run. Brother Noah gave checks out for rain." - Arthur Longbrake

In what would have been the first inning of the Eastern Division Playoff in Yarmouth-Dennis, the only baseball game on Wilson Field was a father and two boys playing catch in right field. The photos you see here are evidence of a complete rainout today in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Puddles at YarmouthIronically, the Y-D Red Sox website shows a photo of Wilson Field with a big rainbow arching overhead. Ever hopeful!

As Dave reports below, both the Eastern and Western playoffs were postponed due to excessive rain. The CCBL website confirms they are postponed until tomorrow at 3 pm.

A steady rain fell all day from Falmouth to Y-D. I know because I drove the length of the Cape today on a family trip to the National Seashore. Our plan was to run around on the beach before the 3 pm scheduled start. The seashore was beautiful on an otherwise gloomy morning. What began as a light drizzle increased steadily as we made our way through Y-D, Orleans, Harwich, Chatham and Orleans.

The Falmouth broadcasters (I stand corrected, the Bourne Broadcasters!) are to be commended for having a recorded message on the Cape.com cell phone call-in line. I suspected the As-Red Sox game would be rained out, but stopped by anyway to snap some photos.

The field was absolutely drenched. The rain will need to stop soon to enable the diamond to drain and be ready for tomorrow.

I'll leave the analysis about what this means to prior post.
