Y-D Wins Game 1 of the East in the 9th

National Anthem Eddie Burns (Georgia Tech)It was back and forth all afternoon at Clem Spillane Field at D-Y High School, but the Y-D Red Sox won the game 4-3 on a Matt Long (Santa Clara) walk-off RBI. Y-D, down 2-1 in the 8th, was seemingly awoken by a "Let's go Red Sox!" chant which was the precursor to a Collin Cowgill (Kentucky) home run on the first pitch of the bottom of the 8th. Later in the inning, the Red Sox got another run on a Jason Castro (Stanford) RBI to make it 3-2.

In the 9th, Chatham refused to call it a day with the bases loaded. Addison Johnson (Clemson) scored on a Nick Cassavechia (Baylor) wild pitch and tied the game up. Nick managed to get out of the inning with no more runs and got the win after his team fought back. Chatham's Rob Wooten (UNC) was charged with the loss after seemingly twisting his ankle before he ran into trouble in the 9th and surrendered the final run.

Both teams had strong starting pitching with Chatham starter Alex White (UNC) striking out 7 in 8 1/3 innings and Y-D starter Eddie Burns (Georgia Tech; pictured top) striking out 5 in 7 innings.

Chatham A's Game Story

.......................................................................................................................

The game started with the Red Sox being awarded the eastern division regular season trophy and Y-D field manager Scott Pickler being awarded the manager of the year award.

This is going to be an exciting series with Y-D's power and Chatham's recent hot streak. I'll be arriving early at Veterans Field in Chatham for game 2 at 7pm. I expect this one to go three games.
