The Y-D and Falmouth meet again the Championship round after the Red Sox beat the Commodores in the 2004 series.

Andrew and I sat together for the Falmouth game tonight. I'll have game notes later.

Congrats to the Chatham A's and the Bourne Braves. What a season for both teams! Our hearts go out. Get 'em next year.

Game notes:

  • Bourne's Kevin Hoeff set the Commodores on edge with a solo blast on the second pitch of the game. It was a no-doubter and got Bourne off to a 1-0 lead.
  • Falmouth's Joey Wong shut down Bourne's attempt at a come-back in the 6th. Josh Workman had just crushed a single to right for Bourne when Josh Satin scorched one up the middle. Wong made one of the best defensive plays I've ever seen at this level, and I'm sure it's just routine for him. He dove hard, popped up and threw out Satin ending Bourne's momentum. I still have to write the little humor piece about how Wong's teammates tease him about his acrobatic plays at short-stop.

Some More Notes (by Andrew):

  • HomerFalmouth pitching shut down all hopes of a Bourne comeback late in the game. Luke Burnett (Louisiana Tech) struck out the side in the 9th inning and I heard one Bourne player exclaim "that ball moved so ____in' much." To which one player replied "what, was he throwing 135?"
  • The 50/50 prize was a little low at only $584. So, if you want to strike it rich you might have better luck @ Y-D.
