Day 38: Hyannis at Bourne

by Greg in

Bourne's lefty Nathan Baker threw 5 1/3 innings to put the Braves in first place in the West. The Bourne Braves dominated the Hyannis Mets today at Doran Field, taking sole possession of the West Division lead.  The Braves beat their rivals 9-2 on a breezy, foggy day.

Nathan Baker (pictured here from today) pitched a gem, going 5 1/3 innings and giving up the only two runs.  He struck out just one by my count but enticed plenty of Mets batters to hit into ground ball outs.  Bourne's Marc Krauss hit the Braves sole homer.  The rest came on timely hitting and Hyannis' 5 errors.  Mets All-Star Chris Dominguez was responsible for several of the errors over at 3rd base.

For the Braves, Krauss was 3-for-4 with a walk and reached on an error.  Kyle Roller also had three hits.

Dominguez went 2-4 today with a double.  I thought the errors he was charged with were a little questionable.  I suppose at this level he should be able to handle those balls but they were slammed to the hot corner.  He almost made the plays .  They would have been incredible plays had he made the stop and the throw.

Matt Nuzzo, who I understand was a standout Massachusetts high school football player, hit a homer to Hyannis.

A good crowd showed up to watch the two top teams battle it out.  The crowd arrived late due to Sunday Cape traffic.

With the All-Star game starting on Saturday, there were plent of scouts on hand today.

It's great to be back on the Cape watching these great talents.
