The college baseball season begins this weekend. For those looking for an early-season baseball fix, the Saturday games of the MLB Urban Invitational Tournament will be televised on the MLB Network. Bethune-Cookman plays the University of San Diego at 2:00 followed by Southern Univ. and San Diego State at 6:00. Some recent, or soon to be Cape Leaguers, will be featured in both games. The players with Cape League connections include Michael Thomas (Southern; Falmouth '08), Tyler Marmion (San Diego State; Y-D '08) and Cory Vaughn (San Diego State; Cotuit '09). The University of San Diego is well represented with players who have ties to the Cape. Those Toreros include ex-Chatham players Victor Sanchez, Sammy Solis and Kyle Blair; James Meador (Brewster '08), Casey Schmidt (Brewster '09); and Matt Thomson (Orleans '08) and Kevin Muno (Orleans '09).
For anyone who doesn't want to wait until Saturday, the college season begins EARLY tomorrow when Central Michigan, led by Dale Cornstubble (Hyannis '08) and Florida Gulf Coast meet. First pitch is scheduled for 12:01 am.
