Sunday playoff thread

The Bourne Braves and the Cotuit Ketleers lead their respective playoff series after one thrilling Saturday on Cape Cod.  Cotuit began the day with a 3-0 victory over the Y-D Red Sox, and the Braves beat the Orleans Firebirds 3-2. Here is today's schedule as confirmed last night by Commissioner Paul Gallop:

Y-D at Cotuit, 3PM (Game 2, Best 2 out of 3) Bourne at Orleans, 4PM (Game 2, Best 2 out of 3)

A few honorable mentions so far.

First, Cotuit has had to win two in order to get to where they are, on the cusp of a championship berth. They may not get there, but that team has accomplished a lot. They won a single-elimination game and then drove to Y-D to beat a powerful team. The Ketleers have a postseason team batting average of .254 (surprisingly Bourne is last with .138).

How about Jeremy Gould of Orleans. Here is his postseason line: .667 AVG, 4 hits in 6 at-bats with 2 RBIs. He has a .750 on-base percentage after two games.

The pitching has been splendid. Cotuit's Justin Grimm and Chad Bell have combined for 15 strikeouts.

Although Howe Sports Data doesn't have Y-D pitching stats this morning I watched Chris Sale get 10 strikeouts during the internet broadcast yesterday.

The Cape Cod Times has had excellent coverage of the league all season. Nicole Auerbach has the Cotuit story and Russ Charpentier has the evening Bourne story

I like the new playoff format. We have debated on this blog whether the CCBL is a showcase league or a competitive league. These close, well-played games are testament that the league is both.

I hope to make the Orleans game at 4 pm today after running in the Falmouth Road Race.
