Can we remember a more exciting championship match-up? The Cotuit Ketleers will play the Bourne Braves at 7 pm tonight at Doran Park near the Bourne Bridge. This is the first time two teams from the same division (in this case the West) have faced each other in a finals, courtesy of a new playoff schedule that enabled six rather than the top 4 teams to qualify.
Both Bourne and Cotuit dominated their elimination games. Bourne eliminated the Orleans Firebirds 8-0. Cotuit rolled to an 18-4 blowout of the Y-D Red Sox. (This after I questioned in my last post if Cotuit could really drive to Red Sox country a second time and beat Y-D).
Bourne and Cotuit have faced each other 6 times during the 2009 season. Bourne has won 3, Cotuit 2 and they have tied once, according to the Bourne website.
Cotuit gets another bite at the apply this year after being swept last year by the unlikely, but deceptively strong Harwich Mariners.
According to the Cotuit site head coach Mike Roberts will start either Navery Moore (RHP) or Andres Caceres (LHP). I don't see a Bourne pitcher listed.
The Braves bring the league MVP, Kyle Roller, into the championship.
Cotuit enters the finals with the highest team batting avergage (.279), compared with Bourne's .215. In team pitching they look to be fairly even.
Bourne holds home field advantage in Game 1 and Game 3 if it is necessary. Something tells me this series goes 3 games.
Both team broadcasts have pre-game shows starting at 6:45. Go the team websites for links to listen in.
On behalf of everyone at CodBall, congratulations to the Firebirds and the Red Sox for a great playoff season. Thanks also to the Wareham Gatemen and the Chatham Anglers for qualifying.
