The Waiting Game

Buster Posey

"I don't think there's any doubt I'm looking forward to getting an opportunity to play," Posey said. "But I'm just excited to be here. It's a chance to see how these guys work to become better players. That can only be beneficial to me. It's good to have a chance to get acclimated here." - Mercury News, 9/10/09

Buster Posey (Y-D '06-'07) is still waiting for his chance. The Mercury News calls him a "once-in-two-decades" prospect for the Giants. San Francisco media is abuzz with complaints for holding Posey back, yet giving pitcher Madison Bumgarner a start on September 8th. As pointed out in the comments, Posey isn't the first prospect from the '07 Cape season to get the call. That honor belongs to Conor Gillaspie (Falmouth '07), who played in 8 games last year with the Giants. We interviewed Giallaspie  in '07 after he was named MVP and batting champion.

With the Giants still in the NL wild card race, you can't blame them for being conservative and not making a major change behind the plate in September. But, for Posey and baseball fans, it means we just have to wait...
