Mike Couzens, long-time friend of CodBall and former Falmouth Commodores broadcaster, tipped us off yesterday that Drew Storen (Cotuit Ketleers '08) would be promoted to the Washington Nationals' Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse. Sure enough, The Washington Post reported it's official. While Stephen Strasbourg continues to steal all of the headlines, the Nats have another top prospect quickly rising within its ranks.
Couzens told me yesterday by email, "I remember sitting behind home plate calling games for Falmouth two summers ago and dreading when he would come in the game. He's got a devastating breaking ball and I'm excited to see him up here at this level."
The night before I received Couzens' email I had read in the latest issue of Baseball America that Storen, 22, had made the top 100 prospects list
I also was reminded that my son and I had watched Storen pitch in the Arizona Fall League on November 9th in Rising Stars game in Phoenix. He gave up the game-winning hit that night, just as he did in the Cape League championships between Cotuit and Harwich several years ago. Storen came out of Stanford.
