2010 Preview: Chatham Anglers

by Andrew Wirtanen in

AnglersChatham continues to push the envelope for the Cape League. This year they have a brand new social media campaign with Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube. All of the volunteers for the team are working very hard. John Schiffner is back for his 18th season as Field Manager and there are also seven returning players. Returning right-hander Logan Verrett (Baylor) has the most intimidating statistics on the pitching staff and should be one of the team's highlights. Verrett recorded 97 strikeouts in 90.2 innings with a 3.28 ERA.

Probably the 2nd most important returning player is jack-of-all-trades Ricky Oropesa (USC). Oropesa batted .353 with 20 home runs and 67 RBIs. Schiffner will be wise to stick him in the lineup in the cleanup spot near Dan Paolini (Siena). Paolini looks to be the newcomer that will have the biggest impact. He's already put Siena on the map and made it into their record books as their only D1 All-American. He batted .368 with 26 home runs and 64 RBIs in 53 games.
