Washington Nationals reliever Drew Storen (Cotuit '08) will likely step into the closer immediately since Matt Capps has been traded to the Minnesota Twins. The Twins are seeking to repeat as American League Central Division winners, since the Wild Card will likely to an Eastern Division team. Storen has been effective in the setup role with 10 holds and a 2.64 ERA. Some reports say that the Nationals will split the closer role, but most experts agree that Storen is the most qualified for the role. Storen led the Cotuit Kettleers with 5 saves in 2008. The league leader was 2008 Russ Ford Award winner Russell Brewer (Hyannis, Vanderbilt) with 12 saves. Brewer signed with the Colorado Rockies last month and was scheduled to report to the advanced rookie class-A Casper Ghosts (Wyoming), but does not yet appear on the roster.
