Name: William Carmona School / CCBL Team: Stony Brook / Wareham Gatemen
Picking up where he left off last year, the 2010 America East Rookie of the Year has put to rest any concerns about a possible sophomore jinx. Carmona has started all 27 games for 19-8 Stony Brook and is batting .336. In a lineup that does not produce a lot of power, Carmona has 2 of the Seawolves 8 homeruns. His 12 doubles and .536 slugging pct. leads the team in both categories.
The 6'0", 220 lb. righthander from Hempstead, NY also sees time on the mound for Stony Brook. Although Carmona has not earned a decision; in 9 innings over 7 appearances, he has a 3.00 ERA and has struckout 5 while issuing only 2 walks. Opponents are batting .273 off him.
Carmona earned numerous awards after leading the conference in batting (.387) and on-base pct. (.456) last year. In addition to the Rookie of the Year honor, Carmona was an All-America East first team selection as designated hitter. He was named freshman All-American by College Baseball Lineup and was picked as a freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger. Carmona was also selected to the America East All-Rookie team and the America East All-Tournament team.
Carmona is one of five players from Stony Brook who are expected to play on the Cape this summer. The other Seawolves on CCBL rosters are Travis Jankowski (Bourne), Tanner Nivins (Brewster), Maxx Tissenbaum (Orleans) and Tyler Johnson (Orleans).
