School / CCBL Team: Florida State / Orleans Firebirds
The sophomore from Cantonment, FL. is returning to Eldredge Park for his second season in a Firebirds uniform and will be looking to improve on the .236 avg., 2 HR and 16 RBI totals that he posted in 24 games for Orleans last summer.
Boyd has started all 55 games at first base for the Seminoles who clinched the ACC’s Atlantic Division title with an 8-6 win over Clemson on Thursday.
Boyd is among the team leaders in most offensive categories. He ended the regular season batting .341 with 5 HR, 53 RBI, a .420 OBP and an OPS of .932. He was successful on 9 of 11 stolen base attempts. With 12 doubles and 4 triples to go along with those 5 homers, Boyd has shown that he has some power. Utilizing a slightly open stance from the right side of the plate, he has also proven to be tough for pitchers to strikeout with only 28 K’s in 248 plate appearances.
Boyd has had 19 multiple-hit games for Florida State and he will carry a 12 game hitting streak into the ACC Tournament where the Seminoles will likely play North Carolina State in their first game later this week.
Firebirds coach Kelly Nicholson will be anxious to pencil Boyd’s name in the middle of his lineup card, but he may have to wait awhile to do that as Boyd and FSU aim for a date in Omaha at the College World Series as the Cape League season is getting underway.
