Quick Hits; July 2

The following article was originally written for, and published at, www.ultimatesportstalk.com. He has only played in two games and is just 1 for 7 so far, but I'm thinking the Bourne Braves just got better with the addition of Colin Moran to their lineup. Moran was the ACC Freshman of the Year while posting a .335 avg. with 9 HR and 71 RBI at North Carolina this spring.

After starting the season 0-7, Falmouth has turned things around and the Commodores now sit at .500 after winning 9 of their last 11 games. I don't think it's a stretch to say that Falmouth will also be further strengthened with the addition of another Tar Heel now that Kent Emanuel has arrived on the Cape. The 6'4" lefthander was 9-1 with a 2.33 ERA over 104.1 innings in his just-completed freshman season.

Even though the calendar just turned to July, Hyannis and Chatham have already completed their season series. With their 6-1 win last night, the Harbor Hawks swept all four games from the Anglers. Staying with Hyannis and Chatham for a moment, Hyannis is 7-1 in road games. Chatham is a dreadful 1-7 when playing at Veterans Field.

Although he batted .414 at Morehead State this spring, Taylor Davis went undrafted last month. Davis apparently hasn't let that get him down and he isn't missing a beat with Brewster. Davis leads the league with a .400 avg. and is third RBI with 11.

10 of Yarmouth-Dennis' last 15 games have been decided by one run. The Red Sox are 5-5 in those games.

Cotuit's Alex Yarbrough (Mississippi) is blogging about his Cape League experience. For a player's perspective, check out what Yarbrough has to say on the Ole Miss website at:  http://www.olemisssports.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/060711aaa.html#

Probably not a coincidence that the teams with the highest staff ERA's are the teams with the worst records. Chatham (5-11-1) has an ERA of 3.85 while Cotuit (5-12-1) sits at 3.98.

William Carmona (Stony Brook) homered on opening night for Wareham. That blast stands as the only homerun for the Gatemen this year. Max White (Oklahoma) has the only homerun for Falmouth.

If you're at a Y-D game and "Wild Thing" blares over the PA system, it may be because Red Sox pitchers have issued the most walks (67 ) and have hit the most batters (20).

Hyannis is 4-0 in one-run games. Bourne has been involved in 7 shutouts, winning 4 of them.

Have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July weekend. Enjoy the games!
