A Few Notes From Saturday, 3/3

Florida's Brian Johnson (Yarmouth-Dennis; '11) didn't have it on the mound yesterday, but he made up for it at the plate. Johnson allowed 9 hits, a walk and 5 runs in 3.1 innings. At bat, he went 4-5 with a homerun and 5 RBI in an eventual 13-5 Gators win over Miami. It was Florida's tenth straight win in the rivalry. Greg Larson (Chatham; '10) earned the win with a perfect 4.2 innings in relief of Johnson. North Carolina's Chris Munnelly (Chatham; '10, '11) pitched shutout ball and alowed just one hit over 7 innings. Munnelly did not earn the decision in the Tar Heels 1-0 win over Southern Cal.

Konner Wade (Wareham; '11, '12) pitched Arizona to a 3-1 win over Harvard. Wade gave up one unearned run on 3 hits while striking out 10 over 7.2 innings. Joey Rickard (Hyannis; '11) had 3 hits in the game for Arizona.

Stony Brook's Brandon McNitt (Orleans; '12) pitched well in a losing cause as East Carolina beat SBU, 2-1. McNitt pitched a complete game and gave up 4 hits and one earned run while walking 3 and striking out 4.

LSU's Mason Katz (Y-D; '11) had reached base 17 consecutive times before striking out in the first inning of the Tigers 16-3 romp over Dartmouth. Katz fell one shy of the NCAA record. Wow....  hard to imagine reaching base 17 consecutive times.
